Spotlight On….John Plunkett, founder of John Plunkett Interiors, talks home décor updates, room refreshes, how listening to clients inspires him and, everything you need to know for spring 2017.
John Plunkett Interiors offers a wide range of fine home furnishings, including furniture, window treatments, carpeting and rugs, decorative accessories, along with interior design services.
Q: How long have you been at the Plaza del Lago location?
A: John Plunkett Interiors is the new essence of the former Plunkett Home Furnishings. Interior designers Valerie and John Plunkett (seen here) landed in Plaza del Lago four years ago and opened one year later, after extensive remodeling.
Q: What are the top three things you ask customers interested in adding a new piece or re-doing an entire room?
A: After welcoming guests to the John Plunkett Interiors studio/showroom, we first ask if they are looking for a particular item, or if they are involved in a decorating project. Then we discuss their personal style. Finally, we ask what price range they are comfortable with.
Q: What advice can you offer to help freshen up décor and home furnishings for spring?
A: Spring is a great time to freshen up our homes. That could mean a complete room re-do that makes an impact and really lifts the spirits. Or, it could mean more affordable changes such as fashionable new throw pillows for the sofa, or a new shade of paint on the wall.
Q: What inspired your concept to offer direct access to fine furniture, carpeting, window treatments and more, at lower prices?
A: Our inspiration begins in listening to our guests and clients. Many of them are tired of running between stores, websites, and design centers, oftentimes with disappointing results. Our new business model saves them time and money while creating interiors they love.
Q: What do you want customers to know about John Plunkett Interiors?
A: We’d like past customers to know we are extremely grateful they have favored us with their interior design and home furnishings business, and for referring their friends and neighbors to us. We also want many North Shore and Chicagoland neighbors to know we are back in business. In some ways, we are a best-kept secret. Regardless of their location – local or out-of-state residences – we can come to their home where they can directly show us their project. Oh, and we love small projects, too!
